I suggest you...

"Small business tier service for Cloud sites"

Offer a smaller Sites service - same managed service but less resources.
We are feeling the downturn and only use a small % of Sites resources. Being asked to cut budgets and maybe move server

Hi Rackers, we love the fanatical service and love RS but it is crunch time for us and we need an answer to this problem - it is a RS problem (not offering the service); and it needs that fanatical approach to giving us an answer that does not contain the word "considering" or will look at etc.

A tiered service with fewer resources is actually less - and as they say - for us (and many) at this critical economic time less is more. We are tasked with having to find alternatives to RS in order to cut costs. I do not want to do this - move from RS - but as we use less than 20% of the resources allocated to us, I cannot come up with a justifiable business-case for management to give us the budget for the 80% non-used resources. You can see this very valid point I am sure. Please can you respond with good news - that'd be a date sometime soon when tiered will be implemented.

Incidentally, I started this thread with this request back in September 10th 2010! Getting on for 2 1/2 years for an answer. This side of RS is not the excellent side of RS that we have come to know and love as the norm of high service-level in the hosting business.

Look forward to a timely, positive reply

        Kind regards
        Dre

Thanks for the feedback. We are actively looking at how best to tier CloudSites for the various needs of our diverse customer base. Less resources for less money is high on the list of options we are considering.

Yeah, I'm looking at Media Temple and other services. I've moved most everything off of Sites, and I'll have to keep going if we can't get down to the ~$50/mo range... It's a shame too, otherwise the service is great.

The current pricing seems ok considering the available resources when compared with dedicated hosting or many shared hosting environments but what would be good and what seems to be the gist of many comments is that it would be great to be able to create a separate account cheaply to segment certain clients. Or the ability to use the one cloud account to create sub accounts, ie reseller for particular clients or other developers or testing environments etc.

        Aww man...

We've been waiting for this with great anticipation. Yes there are resellers. But then we stake our business on some random guy on his own who will hopefully keep stuff running for us. I could sell my organization on even $80/month for a third of what the current package has direct from you guys.

What about just providing a Linux only solution. with:
        10GB of storage per month
        100GB of bandwidth per month
        10000 compute cycles per month

        $5 per GB Extra Storage
        20¢ per GB Bandwidth:
        5¢ per compute cycle

        For 50$/monrh

Guys, I offer "smaller" plans of the RackSpace Cloud sites hosting. 10 domains. 2GB storage. Doesn't matter about the rest (you won't go over) for only $29.80 per month (20% of the regular price). You get your own account and login, FTP, database management. It's perfect for most businesses/customers. Contact me via my website: markacutt.com.

This is something which I really need. I am small site owner. Paying a $149 is too much for me. A smaller package with $50 will be perfect for a lot of site owner like me.

Please let us know when you guys want to do it.

A small package would be great. When do you guys plan on having this completed by, as I see that the status on this project is labeled started.

A scaled down version with a price range of $30-$50 will be awesome. We were looking at CloudSites but $149 is too much. Will likely go for Cloud Servers even though we will have to rough it out a little.

        Please launch this plan soon.

dissatisfied with my current web host. Will likely jump to Cloud Sites once there's a smaller package available. Looking forward to any info on when this will happen!
